Scot Seat finding solutions to customer requirements.

Scot Seat Group provide solutions for many types of applications. With in-house design and development, it means that customers exact requirements can be met. For this customer, Hardbanding Solutions, the seat produced was a modified version of the standard flip-up seat which is also used in wheelchair accessible taxi conversions, airport transfer vehicles, mobile offices and even for waiting room seats on Disney cruise ships.

Here the process of finding what seating solution was required is explained by the customer.

“Hardbanding Solutions (Europe) Ltd has revolutionised the production of Hardbanding equipment for the global oil and gas drilling industry.  Pioneering and perfecting new technology, they’ve engineered a world-leading range of units for the simple and successful application of hardbanding to drill pipe.

In 2016 the company moved to a new purpose-built facility in Irvine and began production of Skye – a hardbanding machine designed for use in the workshops of oil and gas drilling service companies.  Skye machines have since been shipped to customers around Europe and the Middle East. Following the success of Skye Hardbanding Solutions launched SkyeGo, a mobile hardbanding unit with its own power source, built into a modified 20-foot shipping container which can be easily transported around the world and to the rig site.

Having received a request for a seat to provide more comfort for the machine operator, the company contacted Scot Seat Direct. Several options were discussed, and it was agreed that the Flip Seat would provide maximum comfort in the space available and be consistent with the high quality of the machine.”

The flip-up seat has a powder coated steel frame with ABS plastic base and trimmed in hard wearing black leather with a custom embroidered logo on the backrest. Scot Seat also makes a cover for the hardbanding machine which is fabricated from steel and again covered in heavy duty black leather. The cover is designed to protect the operator from the reflection of the welding flash.

This special slim line flip-up seat shows the versatility of the range of seats produced by Scot Seats and shows they can tailor something to virtually any customer requirements.
