Scot Seat team compete in Mull Targa Rally

This weekend, Jonathan Young, who is Managing Director and Alex Young, Chairman of locally based Scot Seat Group took part in the Mull Targa Rally.

Finishing a very respectable 13th place overall, This was the first time Driver Jonathan and his co-driver Julian Broadhurst had competed together in the 1967 Volvo Amazon 123GT rally car.

Jonathan has a successful history in motorsport being ex British Quad Champion, European Supertouring Champion, and Scottish Open Rally Champion but is new to Targa and historic rallying. Targa rally regulations allow 3 people in a car, which meant Jonathan’s father Alex, who also has a successful motorsport background going back to the 1960’s, was also in the car.

Jonathan and Alex previously used the 1967 Volvo on the 2016 Glasgow – Monte Carlo Historique Rally where they raised £10,000 for the Outward Bound Trust.

Jonathan commented “there was room for improvement but we were delighted to have been mixing it up with the more powerful and modern cars at the front of the field. The event was challenging with some tough stages but the team had a great day and we would like to thank the organisers, marshals, and everyone who worked hard to put on such a great event.”

Normally Jonathan would enjoy more comfortable seating than the 1967 Volvo, as his company, based in Fenwick, Ayrshire, designs and manufacturers specialist seating for commercial vehicles, buses, trains, emergency service vehicles, military vehicles and boats throughout the world.  Scot Seat Group, established in 2000 are currently in the process of building a new factory on their existing site near Fenwick which will allow them to grow and increase staff numbers. The project is expected to be finished by spring 2018.
